Community Development and Engagement Ministry, CDEM, is an initiative of Total Life Christian Missionary Bible Center (TLCMBC) with respect to the application of spiritual principles to the natural challenges of life. The visionary for CDEM is Chaurcey Boyd, TLCMBC founder under Christ.
The core functions of TLCMBC focuses on worship, the Great Commandments (Matthew 22:34-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). This includes love for God, self, and others and calling all to become disciples of Christ and to live that discipleship out in all areas of life everyday, in everyplace, in every way. This involves preaching and teaching spiritual truths and their application to every area of life.
CDEM on the other hand focuses on the second part of the Great Commandment; that second part is about love for others as one loves oneself. CDEM therefore focuses on love for self and community. In essence, this was the call of the Seven of Acts 6:1-7 and the work of Paul in 1 Cor 16:1-3 and Rom 15:25-27. CDEM is about helping TLCMBC to be a church that meet the temporal needs of the people not just in terms of hand-outs but even more importantly hand-ups.
CDEM is dedicated to engaging the community so as to honor God in all aspects of society and to improve quality of life for all citizens. CDEM involves the application of spiritual truths and acceptable moral community norms so as to reach for equitable quality of life. However, CDEM focus is not on proselytizing/evangelizing; that is taken care of by other TLCMBC elements. CDEM does make it known as to schedule and opportunities regarding other TLCMBC elements. Yet a person's access to and utilization of CDEM services, support and resources shall not require participation in any event of other TLCMBC elements.
The impetus for CDEM is the observation that God calls for the universal church of Jesus Christ to be the pillar and ground of truth (I Tim 3:15) for all areas of life including all society institutions (Psalm 127:1). For the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein (Psalm 24:1). This stimulus includes the observable need for more intense faith community involvement in helping people to live the desired life of faith (Matthew 22:15-22; Matthew 25:27, 40; John 17:21; Acts 6:1-7; Acts 15:1-35; Acts 17:1-2; Ephesians 4:11-16) everywhere on earth in a manner that glorifies God. This includes easing the denominational, racial, political, and socio-economic divide in society. CDEM operates in the spirit of repentance, faith, hope, love, grace, mercy, and compassion (Matthew 4:17; 1 Corinthians 13:13; 2 Chronicles 7:13-14; Psalm 85:1-13)
In support of its Community Development and Engagement Ministry, TLCMBC is a sponsor of the Texarkana Area Christian Leadership Conference (TACLC), which was founded by Chaurcey Boyd.
